TA 101 – FAQ
What is TA 101?
TA 101 is the official introductory course in Transactional Analysis (TA), a psychological framework developed by Eric Berne. This two-day course examines the theory of TA, including the structure of personality; transactions, or the way we relate to others; the psychological “games” we play; and life scripts. The workshop follows an internationally recognized and agreed syllabus. Participants will be awarded an officially recognized TA 101 certificate upon
completion. This certificate is a prerequisite for those who wish to study TA at an advanced level.
People often attend TA 101 out of curiosity about understanding human behavior. As they realize what they did not know, it becomes a reality-changing experience for many. It is not uncommon for the two-day TA 101 course to lead participants to join the one-year foundation program, which they often continue further once they experience how fascinating (albeit sometimes challenging) it is to make sense of their own internal world.
What is Transactional Analysis?
TA (Transactional Analysis), developed in the 1950s by the late Dr. Eric Berne, is an ever-evolving, useful, and fascinating framework for understanding personality development, human behavior, communication, and relationships. TA often provides answers to why communication and relationships fail and how we repeat patterns of behavior that are limiting or damaging.
TA was initially developed as an approach to psychotherapy. However, over the past 50 years, it has found wider application in all fields concerning human growth and change, namely counseling, education, organizations, and coaching. Its universal value that “people are OK,” its emphasis on people’s power to choose, and the immense hope it places on the possibility of change make it relevant to all cultures.
The pragmatic and easy-to-understand theories of TA help us make sense of our complexities, take responsibility for our own change, and use a variety of tools and models to create transformation. The genius of TA is its simplicity. It can be easily taught and learned. As Eric Berne would say, “If it cannot be explained to an eight-year-old, it is not worth saying!”
Who is the TA 101 course designed for?
TA 101 is like a user manual for human beings—it is for everybody. It is best suited for those curious about understanding why they are the way they are. It offers plenty for those who are involved in developing and influencing others—leaders, coaches, therapists, educators, HR professionals, organizational consultants, and parents. Basically, if you deal with people in any capacity—and who doesn’t?—you’ll find something here to make your life a bit more comprehensible or at the very least, a bit less mystifying.
