Boundary Violations – How They Begin

A two-hour online workshop for therapists, coaches, counsellors, based on Marilyn R. Peterson’s At Personal Risk
Most of us are trained to recognise boundary violations when they become visible—when something has clearly gone wrong.
But what if violations are not sudden events, but slow relational shifts?
Marilyn Peterson’s work invites us to look earlier. To notice how the professional relationship can begin to change in small, almost imperceptible ways.
This session explores boundary violations not as acts of misconduct, but as a process of disconnection, that carries potential for harm.
At the heart of every professional relationship lies a covenant: that the client’s needs come first. And yet, as practitioners, we also carry our own needs, vulnerabilities, and blind spots. This workshop creates space to reflect on that tension—without judgement, but with honesty.
We will explore:
How boundary violations begin, long before they are visible
The role of power in shaping the therapeutic relationship
Early markers such as role reversal, secrecy, and subtle shifts in responsibility
The professional’s inner struggle with power—its pull, discomfort, and denial
This is not a session about “bad practice.” It is a space to think about ordinary practice, more deeply.
Designed to be reflective and rigorous without being exposing, the session is open to practitioners across modalities—early-career and experienced alike.
Who is this for?
Psychotherapists, coaches and counsellors across modalities, in private or institutional settings. Relevant for both early-career and experienced practitioners. No prior familiarity with Peterson’s work or Transactional Analysis is required.
This session is fully booked. Drop your interest below to be the first to know when the next one opens up. In the meantime, explore our other offerings.
